My buddy @sauce_gone_fishing and I hit the Saluda River mid June in my Bonafide RVR119 and ended up having a great run. It was a 14 bass day with a few nice ones in the mix. CVLIFE 1.5-5 x 32 Crossbow Scope Review - illuminated FPS scope

Last year CVLIFE asked me to review their 1.5-5x32 crossbow scope. They sent me their first version of the scope and asked me to go over it and give them feedback which I did. STOP asking "How far can you shoot a crossbow?" and start asking "How far SHOULD you shoot?"
Переглядів 2,1 тис.5 місяців тому
When I talk about crossbow hunting I get asked this question all the time. "How far can you shoot a crossbow?" The issue that some people have is the idea that since a crossbow scope has hash marks all the way out to 100 yards, they think it should be easy to shoot it out to 100 yards. But the fact is, a crossbow with a scope at 100 yards is much different than a rifle with a scope set to 100 y...

    Just bought an m370 refurbished, great deal I’m thinking at $450 from Ten Point with the year warranty , quiver and 3 bolts . Had a Mission before but no way I’m over a grand $$ for a crossbow . One shoots plenty fast, nice camo, and less than 6 lb. What do you think about the multi line scope? I have a compensating scope that i might use.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth 6 днів тому

      Yea man that is a great price on a very nice crossbow. I think when I initially bought mine it was $800 or so. The scope was fine, but CVLIFE sent me one of their scope models to test out and so that is what I have mounted on it now. It is one of those 20 yards to 100 yard scopes. I do like the CVLIFE better, but not because of that. I like it better because it has illumination. What a world of difference that makes at first and last light. ua-cam.com/video/E2282LqtSWs/v-deo.html

    hey buddy I have the same scope where 50 yrds is center I meed help sighting in

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth 12 днів тому

      So this is what you need to do. Sight in at 20 yards using the regular scope adjustments just to get the windage correct. Then once that is done, sight in at 50 yards using your scope adjustment. Yes that will totally mess up what you did at 20 yards but don't worry. They key is getting 50 yards dead on. Once 50 yards is dead on, do not make any more adjustments with the normal yardage adjustments on the scope. Now go back to 20 yards, but instead of using the normal windage and yardage adjustments on your scope, you are going to use the speed adjustment or "zoom" ring. Adjust in one direction and if that takes you further away, make your adjustment in the other direction. You will figure it out in a couple of shots. But keep making the adjustments on the speed ring until your 20 is on. During this whole process, your 50 will always be on because it is the center of the scope and the center never changes as you change zoom on the speed ring. Once you have the 20 yards set with this method, you should be good to go. I ended up shooting mine out to 80 yards with this method.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth 17 днів тому

      Thanks Rich! I am a big proponent of wearing a safety harness and not just the safety harness but the whole lifeline. When I was young and dumb I would climb 20' up a tree putting tree steps in along the way and then mounting one of those old loc-on stands on the tree with no harness or nothing. Then I bowhunted out of that little loc-on stand with nothing. It is only by the grace of God I never fell. How foolish I was back then. I think everyone needs to wear a safety harness and use a lifeline. Every year there are bad stories of people falling from their treestand.

    This video is 3 years old at the time of my viewing so I'm sure you have had ample opportunity to see how the spooler works. One thing that may have been a problem (and maybe you have already discovered it) is even though not having backing under the braid (might) have contributed a little bit to the braid biting into the under layers of othe wraps of braid, that problem is normally contributed to too low of tension on the braid while spooling. Braid doesn't like having too low of a tension. I don't know how much tension you can achieve on the Piscifun Speed X Spooler but if it cannot maintain enough tension, you might still have to use your hand holding the device to also create enough tension on the braid. Just my thoughts. The mono backing is going to serve two functions though, so you did need it on the spool first: It helps keeps the braid from slipping as braid doesn't cinch down and bite the spool the way mono does, and it also keeps you from adding more braid than you need, which can add up in expense. But otherwise, it seems to work, so I might give it a try and just monitor the tension well.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth 20 днів тому

      Yep since then, I have backed my braid. I have not had a problem with spooling braid using the piscifun spooler since then. In fact I just spooled braid on a spool with it 2 weeks ago! Thanks for the info!

    I live in FL where I use my Bonafide SS127 kayak for flats fishing and in lakes. I tend to cover several miles when I fish and I have problems with my legs so I paddle and have a MotorGuide Xi3 trolling motor for backup. I absolutely love the stability of the SS127 and it's seat is very comfortable. That said, I can definitely see the benefits of the RVR 119 when fishing in rivers.

    Thanks for the tips! A few years back I purchased an Archery Kit from Third Hand Archery Accessories and it came with the tread grip tape, bow holder, stabilizer straps and a foot rest. After seeing a buddy have the bottom of his climber get loose and fall to the base of the tree I liked the idea of the stabilizer straps which connects the upper portion of the the tree climber to the bottom. The foot brace is a rather simple device, basically an adjustable strap that attaches to the top of the Summit stand that makes a loop with a piece of PVC pipe to put your feet on. Basically it allows you to push your feet out in front of you and you feel like your in a recliner. I have trouble with my legs when I sit for long periods of time. The foot brace allows me to stay in my tree stand all day if I want to. There are videos on their website which explains things better than I can.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth 27 днів тому

      Oh yea years ago I was using an old amaker heavy steel tree stand hunting in palm tree on a management area in Florida. The bottom dropped out on me. It was awful getting down and bringing the top part of the stand with me. Banged my head all the way down. I always attach the bottom to the top to prevent that from happening now. I like the idea of that foot brace. That is a good idea. Especially for long sits. Thanks for the info!

    I installed the SideStage Pro Rod Rack on my Bonafide SS127 a couple weeks ago and I'm very pleased with how it works. I have mine installed on the right side of kayak and carry the handle end of the the rods towards the rear of the kayak. I leave the tip of the rod rack open and the and handle end of the rod rack closed so if I accidentally bump the rod it will not come out. The quick release is nice for transport. Definitely one of my favorite YakAttack products.

      Yea I really liked it. Thought it made things a little easier and didn't have to worry about my rods getting caught in the trees. Once I got it adjusted for me, it worked great and was not in the way at all like I was afraid it might be. Took a little bit to figure out how to lock it in the track though ;)

    I tried them also about 2 years ago and I have to agree with everything , word for word, that you said. I am 71, no shit, and it's hasn't been fun (for the last 50 years) watching that filthy crooked 1% continue to fuck us with sub par products, bad customer service, screwing the shorts off of us, all, because they can. I just don't give two shits anymore whether I wake up in the morning or not. But I would like to get a chance to pay these assholes back. I am sorry to my kids, my grandkids, and my great-grandchildren that this is the way of the world nowadays for the majority of people, unless of course, you have money. Sorry for the rant, but I've paid my dues. Oh, and fuck the influencers for the fine job they do in helping this all along.

    Just buy rye grass it's almost the same as your big buck throw and grow bag and way cheaper! I plant rye grass in front of my cameras so the deer dont hang out and eat in front of them.

    Awesome video and catches man. I live in Northwest ga and went last summer and fished near the West fork Chattooga is this spot near there. Im heading back in a few weeks to try for a bartram's again for the Georgia slam. I couldn't find a good spot last year for putting the kayak in any help/suggestions?

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth Місяць тому

      Thanks man. We put in at the Hwy 28 bridge (Russell Bridge) where it cross the state line. There is a parking area on the GA side and you can take your kayak down the hill and put in at the bridge. We took out at the Long Bottom Ford Campground. We also catch some Bartram's Bass in the Savannah River at the Augusta Shoals area but not every time. Little farther drive for you there though.

      @@BooneDownSouth awesome, yeah that's the bridge I went to last June looking to put my kayak in. How far downstream were you able to catch the bartram's from the bridge. I waded to where the other creek comes in in the right. I guess that's the West fork? I asked a couple of fly fisherman there about if they had caught any bartram's and they acted like I was crazy so I assumed none were there and I just trout fished instead. Thanks so much for your help I want to get one so bad. I'll be there in a couple weeks can't wait.

    If you have a high end compound bow with 85 percent let off at 40 pounds its extremely easy to pull back.Crossbows ruined archery season they are a small range rifle.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth Місяць тому

      So people are always going to say that man. Back in the day, when they went from 50% let off to 65% let-off you had people saying the same thing about compound bows. In those days, 85% let- off was just thought of as nuts and people said these higher letoffs (even 65% were going to ruin archery season). And here you are touting an easy to pull back compound bow telling us that crossbows ruin archery season. What you are doing is trying to limit what everyone else can do. Not everyone has the time to practice - a compound bow takes much more practice than a crossbow. Not everyone has the same physical abilities - think of older guys, think of guys who have bad shoulders - like myself. You are going to tell me I can't hunt archery anymore cause I use a crossbow, even though I might mess my shoulders up by still trying to shoot a compound bow? Really? Come on man. As hunters we need to stick together and allow each person to use whatever weapon they are capable and comfortable with as long as it is legal. I have been hunting my whole life and I see no evidence to show how crossbows ruined archery season for anyone. If anything, they brought more people in to the sport of hunting which is in fact what we need.

      @BooneDownSouth There's a huge advantage between drawing a bow and pulling a trigger,there should be a seperate season for them.

    • @BooneDownSouth
      @BooneDownSouth Місяць тому

      There is an advantage no doubt, but there is absolutely no evidence showing any detriment to allowing crossbows during archery season that I have seen. On the contrary there are a lot of reasons to allow them during archery season. We will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

      @@laurelhighlandoutdoors3257 You need to get a life. How dare you try to tell me I shouldn't use a crossbow. I have used both, and I hate to tell you, but it's not that easy with a crossbow bud

      @jonathanyates5198 It is easier to use a crossbow that's why alot of people went to one.They belong in there own season.
